Coldplay Concert in Jakarta Successfully Prevents 11,733 Kg of Waste from Ending up in Landfill
Waste4Change was appointed as a responsible waste management partner by PK Entertainment for the Coldplay Music of the Spheres World Tour. This concert will be held at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium Jakarta, November 15 2023.

Due to the implementation of Zero Waste to Landfill, 11,733.2 kg of event waste has been handled optimally and responsibly. Its weight when converted is equivalent to 22 sedans.
Apart from that, this activity also helps prevent 9,861 kg CO2 eq of carbon emissions from polluting the earth. The impact is equivalent to consuming 1,110 gallons of gasoline, planting 163 trees in 10 years, switching 374 light bulbs to LED.
This initiative by PK Entertainment is in line with the sustainable concept that Coldplay promotes in their concerts. One of them is reducing waste production at events. Then 1,924 kg of organic waste, 6,415.2 kg of inorganic + paper waste, and 3,394 tons of residual waste were thoroughly processed according to their type.
Organic waste is used as BSF maggot feed, inorganic waste is recycled, and residual waste is managed using the Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) method. Not alone, Waste4Change also collaborates with WASTEC—a hazardous waste processing company in Indonesia—as a B3 waste processing partner. A total of 400 kg of B3 waste produced from this event was handled optimally.
Mohamad Bijaksana Junerosano, Founder & CEO of Waste4Change, said, “We are proud to be able to take part in the excitement of this Coldplay Concert. PK Entertainment is trusted to realize the Reduce principle in the sustainability concept promoted by Coldplay through responsible waste handling. This shows that with intention and will, there are many smart ways that can be done to prevent the rest of our activities from ending up in landfill and adding to the burden on the environment.”
He continued, “You can imagine what will happen to the production waste from more than 50 thousand visitors if it is not handled properly. “Through this initiative, we hope to provide inspiration and attend more events, such as concerts, festivals, seminars, and others in the future that also think about event waste management and participate in implementing the Zero Waste to Landfill concept in organizing events.”
Responsible Waste Management During Concerts
To maximize waste management practices at concerts, Waste4Change provides many segregated waste bins. 3 types of rubbish bins are distributed at various points in the GBK stadium area to make it easier for visitors to dispose of rubbish.

All tenants are also invited to sort their waste into 3 types of waste, namely organic, inorganic and residue. Apart from that, there are also volunteer educators who are always around to invite visitors to practice responsible waste management, collaborating with Operation Semut and Cleanaction.
Apart from implementing responsible waste management, PK entertainment also implements other initiatives to create sustainable concerts. These include encouraging the audience to bring refillable bottles by also providing Hydration Stations as an effort to reduce the production of plastic waste, urging the audience to prioritize the use of public transportation, bicycles or walking to get to the concert arena as an effort to reduce carbon emissions, and urging tenants to reduce their use. plastic in its products and switching to environmentally friendly materials.

Various preparations were made to realize the holding of a green and sustainable Coldplay Concert. Such as identifying waste generation that has the potential to increase in quantity, collaborating with external parties, one of which is waste management, placing signage containing information relevant to waste management, and also involving the participation of visitors, spectators and other parties involved in the event through socialization and environmental awareness campaigns carried out online. By expanding information on the implementation of Zero Waste to Landfill at events, it is hoped that the people involved can follow the existing rules and participate in holding concerts that have a positive impact on nature.
