Waste4Change Internship Program 2020: Safe Internship Amidst Pandemic
From September up until December 2020, Waste4Change’s Internship Program 2020 batch 2 was held. Yep, despite the pandemic, Waste4Change continues to open internship programs that can be performed remotely and from home.

When applying, interns can choose their preferred departments in which they want to be enrolled in. The available departments are Operational Services, Strategic Services, Communication & Engagement, Information & Technology, Finance & General Affairs, Human Capital, and also Business Development.
Upon boarding the internship program, the interns will be given a one-time induction regarding Waste4Change and also about the waste issues that we are currently facing.
Moreover, the Waste4Change Internship Program (WIP) consists of
- Capacity Building: knowledge and skills improvement for interns through several sessions of internal training.
- Sharing Session: Monthly exchange of stories and experiences between interns to encourage evaluation and reflective processes for each participant
- Collaboration Project, in which interns will get to pour their ideas and creativity while practicing teamwork between divisions and enhance their project management and problem-solving skills
- Trying out New Roles: Every intern will have a chance to try new roles in order to enrich their experience and internship journey

In regards to the situation, most of the activities are done online through zoom. As for cases where the interns need to go to the office, we make sure that they fill out a monitoring form beforehand in order to monitor the number of people that will be at the office every day.

Throughout the internship program, the interns were also divided into groups for the collaboration project, and later on, each group will come up with an environmental project/campaign to be executed.

These projects serve as their final project before the internship period ends, and they will present it to the internship supervisors. The projects will get scored based on several criteria, and one winner shall be chosen based on the highest score.
Waste4Change Internship and Green Jobs
Have you ever think that an internship (or even a career) at Waste4Change can be considered a green job?
According to the International Labour Organization, green jobs can be defined as decent jobs that contribute to preserve or restore the environment, be in traditional sectors such as manufacturing and construction, or in new, emerging green sectors such as renewable energy.

In other words, the definition of green jobs may include one or more of the following criterias:
- Improve energy and raw materials efficiency
- Limit greenhouse gas emissions
- Minimize waste and pollution
- Protect and restore ecosystems
- Support adaptation to the effects of climate change
When referring to the definition of green jobs above, it’s clear that what we do here at Waste4Change falls into the third criteria, which is to minimize waste and pollution.
Our mission as a company was never to earn as many profits as possible, but rather to change the waste management ecosystem to make it more sustainable and responsible. This was also proven by how most of our employees do not work just for the sake of earning a living, but also for a greater vision of solving Indonesia’s waste issues. It’s more than just a job.
An Internship Program that We Care About
As a growing company, we highly appreciate and are humbled to be able to provide our interns with the internship program that we have designed carefully, in hopes that we will be able to cater to the interns’ needs.
Because we believe that an internship program should be a two-way process, not only for the company to select the ideal candidates but also for the interns to select the kind of company they want to work for.
We will continue to improve our internship programs with the aim to give our interns valuable learning curves and one-in-a-lifetime experiences in the field of waste management.
We are joyful that despite the pandemic, we can still open internships for those who needed it, and we are certainly helped a lot by our amazing interns, hopefully, the feelings are mutual.
