Waste4Change Awarded as The Most Responsible Company by World’s Most Valued Business (MVB) Indonesia

On 8th November 2019, the World’s Most Valued Business, usually known as MVB Indonesia held an appreciation ceremony in Raffles, Jakarta. The ceremony is held in order to appreciate and acknowledge companies and brands who have demonstrated the highest standards of sustainability and good business practice.

The MVB Special Awards are divided into three categories, namely MVB Most Responsible Company, MVB Most Ethical Business Practices, and MVB Best Sustainability Innovation.

Waste4Change had the honor to receive the special award of MVB Most Responsible Company for its work as a social entrepreneur that provides responsible waste management services since 2014.

In addition, another two companies, Danone Aqua and Phapros, are also awarded as MVB Best Sustainability Innovation and MVB Most Ethical Business Practices respectively

The Appreciation Ceremony is opened by a speech from Mr. Alistair Speirs as the Chairman of MVB, followed by a speech from Mr. Eamonn Sadler, the CEO of MVB. Moreover, the Swedish Ambassador, HE. Mrs. Marina Berg, also gave her remarks to open the appreciation ceremony. The event continued with dinner provided by Raffles and music performance by M2 Entertainment.

In addition to the MVB Special Awards, MVB Indonesia also gave recognition to 24 companies who have been, and still doing their parts to implement sustainability throughout their business practices. Some of those companies are Coca Cola Amatil Indonesia, Hotel Tugu Bali, Jakarta Aquarium, AYP Group, and many more.

MVB Sustainable Business Conference 2019

The MVB Appreciation Ceremony also marks the end of the MVB Sustainable Business Conference that was held on the day before, 7th November 2019, in Raffles, Jakarta. The conference lasts for a whole day at Dian Ballrom under the subject of corporate sustainability with the theme Sustainability for Indonesia’s Key Economic Sector. It was opened by Mr. Alistair Speirs as Chairman of MVB, followed by a welcome remark from Eamonn Sadler as CEO of MVB.

Furthermore, the conference was divided into four discussion panels with different sub-themes, preceded by keynote speeches delivered by Amanda Katili Niode, Manager of the Climate Reality Project and Martin Jacobson, the CEO of Supertext.

Waste4Change is invited as one of the speakers in the first panel under the sub-theme “The Major Challenges for All Industries: Waste, Water, and Energy and the impact on the environment and the whole business and investment scene”. During that session, Waste4Change is represented by Faiza Fauziah from Partnership and Program Development.

The panel also features other experts namely Steve Piro, CEO & Founder of Synergy Energy Solutions, Didier Perez, President Director of PT PIPA, Lastyo Lukito, Director of External Affairs of The Nature Conservancy, and Riki Frindos as Executive Director of KEHATI.

Faiza talked about the waste crisis that is happening in Indonesia, and how Waste4Change is trying to address the problem by providing a responsible waste management services, be it for individual, residences, and companies. From the session, it is hoped that there will be more companies and business actors who are eager to collaborate with Waste4Change in order to adopt a responsible waste management system.

The second panel of the conference continued with the theme “Sustainable Food and Beverage Industries” on product innovation and the business commitment to sustainability, presented by Helianti Hilman, Founder of JAVARA, Karyanto Wibowo, Director of Sustainable Development of Danone – Aqua and Lucia Karina, Director of Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia.

Then moving on to the third panel which discussed the topic of Sustainable Tourism, on how essential it is to preserve nature and develop sustainable tourism. The featured speakers were, Alistair Speirs, Chairman of MVB, Sufintri Rahayu, Public Relations Director of TRAVELOKA and Susan Santos De Cárdenas, President & CEO of Society for Sustainable Tourism & Development, Inc.

Last but not least, the last panel discussed about “Sustainable Garment & Fashion”, specifically regarding the growing importance of sustainable garment and fashion as well as the negative impacts of fast fashion towards the environment. This panel invited speakers from various organizations and businesses such as Marina Chahboune, Sustainability Specialist of Closed Loop Fashion, Jessica Vilhelmson, Country Manager Indonesia of H&M Indonesia, Jean Pierre Seveke, President Director of Hollit International and David Forsgate, Chief Representative Officer of ERALDA.

Most Valued Business (MVB) itself is an organisation dedicated to helping organisations, large or small, national or international, to become more sustainable, across seven critical value areas, which are: sustainability, best possible business practices, ethical employment, customer service and respect, environmental friendliness, safety and security and corporate values.
