On Thursday, 31st October 2019, Ades publicly announced a program called #NiatMurni Ades to support the initiative to manage plastic bottle waste. The collaboration between Ades, Gojek, as well as Waste4Change is a part of the initiatives that has been done since May 2019.
About the #NiatMurni Ades Program
As a bottled water company that is a part of Coca Cola Indonesia, Ades is committed to ensure the quality of drinking water. Moreover, Ades also has a vision of purity, embodied not only in the water that is consumed, but also in regard to the intention to care for the environment together with stakeholders and the society as a whole.
Mohamad Rezki Yunus as the Marketing Manager Hydration of Coca-Cola Indonesia stated as follow
Ades is committed to ensure the quality of our drinking water, and that we understand the importance of continuing environmental program that will have positive impacts to the source of Ades’ drinking water. This is what encourage Ades to cooperate with Gojek and Waste4Change as partners who share the same mission to give back to the environment. This is one of Ades’ efforts to support people’s intention to give positive impacts towards the environment by participating in a simple way, which is to collect their plastic bottle waste.
The truth is there are still many people who neither have the awareness nor the initiative about the importance of waste segregation, while in fact segregating and managing waste can be done by everyone starting from their own household. Even more now that we have #NiatMurni program from Ades, in cooperation with Gojek and Waste4Change, This program will enable people to send their plastic bottle waste to the closest waste banks in order to prevent the plastic bottle from ending up in landfills or polluting the environment.
Mohamad Rezki Yunus also added, “Ades believed that every plastic bottle has a value instead of ending up as trash (second life). We hope that this collaboration can help to overcome waste management problems by educating the society to be actively involved in segregating plastic bottle waste in their own house, and then sending it to the nearest waste banks using the Go-Send feature. Then, the plastic bottle will be recycled and at the same time generate benefits for Ades’ consumers and users of the Gojek application.
Currently Indonesia generates 65,8 million tons of waste per year, of which 7,2 million tons of plastics that are generated each year are mostly used for bags, packaging, and bottles.
Furthermore, Triyono Prijosoesilo as the Public Affairs and Communications Director of Coca-Cola Indonesia emphasizes that “The efforts to synergize #NiatMurni Ades and Gojek is in line with the efforts done by Plastic Reborn of Coca-Cola Indonesia to realize the World Without Waste commitment. Through the cooperation in collecting waste between Ades and Gojek (as well as Waste4Change) that utilizes technology as the platform, the program will support the realization of circular economy in Indonesia.”
He further adds, “This collaboration is a collective effort to facilitate people in collecting and managing their plastic bottle waste, as well as to support the government’s target in increasing both the collection and recycling rate for a better environment and livelihood.”
Collaboration with GOJEK indonesia
One of the simple things that people can do to help in realizing circular economy is by collecting their plastic bottle waste in order to be recycled. Later on the plastic bottle waste will be sent by utilizing the Go-Send feature, which will help costumers to find the nearest waste banks along with the support from Waste4Change
Head of Logistic Gojek, Junaidi, stated that
We highly support and welcome this collaboration between Ades and Waste4Change. This is also in line with GoGreener, an initiative from Gojek which aims to help consumers, merchants, and drivers to have a environmental-friendly lifestyle. We are certain that both the #NiatMurni initiative as well as GoGreener will be able to encourage a greener lifestyle for many people.
This cooperation also gives economic value to plastic bottle, because for every 50 plastic bottle waste that are sent, consumers will obtain 2000 points. The points can then be exchanged for electric token, phone bill, or Gopay balance. For early phase, the sinergy between Ades and Gojek will run for 3 months, which will then be evaluated in regard to the collection process and whether or not there is a behavior change in how people view and treat their plastic bottle waste.
Junaidi also added that, “Go-Send will make it easier for people to reach the destination points for delivering the plastic bottle waste to the nearest waste banks. Later on this service can also be accessed through the Gojek application by clicking the #NiatMurni Ades image in the shuffle card, which will redirect the users to Waste4Change website in which the process of ordering Go-Send and delivering the plastic bottles will take place.”
Responsible Management with Waste4Change
Mohamad Bijaksana Junerosano, Founder and Managing Director Waste4Change stated that
The active role of consumers to be reponsible with their waste is very important. We are here to support the cooperation of #NiatMurni through Waste4Change system, which can bridge the both customers and Gojek users with recycling partners as a solution for people to participate in the collection of plastic bottle waste.
In order to participate in the #NiatMurni initiative, people need crush their plastic bottle before they are packed and sent to the waste banks with the help of the Gojek drivers. This is to make sure that the waste are well-received by the waste banks.
In addition, the #NiatMurni initiative is one of the Extended Producer Responsibility programs from Coca Cola Indonesia, a mechanism in which producers take responsibility towards the products (and the waste) that they produce.
As a social entrepreneur in responsible waste management, Waste4Change provides a service called Extended Producer Responsibility, which will ensure an optimal and responsible waste collection for brand-labeled waste or waste from product packaging.
By using the Extended Producer Responsibility service, your company’s waste will not end up in landfills (Zero Waste to Landfill/ZWTL), and you will contribute in realizing the circular economy.
