Kementerian PUPR Bijak Kelola Sampah

Mr. Ir. Sudirman, MM, expressed that the Kementerian PUPR Bijak Kelola Sampah program is a follow-up of the intention of the Ministry of PUPR to realize the concept of eco-office in the building area of the Ministry of PUPR, and also is one of PUPR’s support in reducing the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill.

The PUPR Ministry building area located in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, is one of the well-organized government buildings, complete with greening and comfortable parks, and this time the Ministry of PUPR wants to invite employees and all parts of the Ministry of PUPR to take responsibility in their waste management and waste recycling process.

Mr. Nuris Wahyudi, S.ST, M.T, as Kasie Pengelolaan Persampahan dan Drainase Lingkungan II explained the role of the Ministry of PUPR in supporting waste management in Indonesia. He explained that waste management is one of the main considerations of the Ministry of PUPR.

Waste4Change’s Founder and Managing Director, Mohamad Bijaksana Junerosano, explained why implementing the 3R (Reduce-Reuse-Recycle) concept in daily waste management is important to support the #ZeroWastetoLandfill movement. The overcapacity condition of landfills in Indonesia requires the community to increasingly play an active role in reducing waste generation and increasing waste recycling rate. Sorting out waste and ensuring that waste is managed responsibly and optimally is one of the most effective steps, which is currently also being implemented by staff and all employees of the Ministry of PUPR Building in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.

The PUPR Ministry’s waste management, starting from October 18th, 2019 to the next year, will be managed together with Waste4Change. Organic and inorganic waste will be sorted and transported in a segregated state and will be recycled optimally. Residual waste (waste that is difficult to be recycled) will be processed so it does not end up at the landfill using RDF technology to be used as a building material. All steps to manage #ZeroWastetoLandfill and be environmentally friendly are expected to be supported by all staff and employees of the Ministry of PUPR.

The event continued with a question and answer session with participants of the launch event of Kementerian PUPR Bijak Kelola Sampah event. One of them is a canteen manager at the Ministry of Public Works and Housing who wanted to know more about environmentally friendly packaging that can reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill. Another PUPR employee wanted to know more about the safe management of waste for the environment, as well as what could be done to support the transport of disaggregated waste starting from the source to the waste management facility.
