AKABIS SMAN 13 Bekasi: Becoming a “Wise” Person in Waste Problem

Bekasi – Waste4Change held another Akademi Bijak Sampah (Waste Management Academy) last Wednesday, October 21st, 2015. The participants of the Waste4Change AKABIS training this time were high school students of class X, XI, and XI of SMAN 13 Bekasi. The high school students looked enthusiastic to participate in the training series from morning to evening.

The activity started with visiting to the composting area. Here, the participants received an explanation of the various types of waste. Not only that, participants were invited to go directly to sorting waste based on its characteristics.

In the composting area, the participants also learn how the process of making compost, starting from compost from organic waste, liquid compost, to making fertilizer using the vermicomposting method. The next agenda is a visit to the Material Recovery House (RPM).

At the RPM, participants gained new knowledge about processing inorganic waste such as plastic, paper, glass, and so on. Garbage is grouped by type to be processed in a chopping machine. The results of this enumeration are then distributed to third parties to be used as new items.

The next activity, participants were invited to the main office of Waste4Change to receive supplies in the form of materials related to waste problems and their current handling, which is still concerning. From the series of events for one day, the participants were finally invited to realize that the waste problem requires awareness and joint efforts to solve it.

By participating in the Wise Waste Academy, the students of SMA 13 Bekasi are ready to grow into individuals who are wise in their waste management. Are you ready too?
